Spying is a secret act, so many factual spy stories are told in a fictional style. Throughout history many historical clandestine events have been told in spy novels. 

This talk will explore the influence of history of this popular genre and how the spy novel often mirrors the times is which was written.

Joseph Warner is a native of northwest St Johns for over fifty years, who spent thirty years overseas at the American Embassies as a Foreign Service Officer. Upon retiring from the government, he returned to the area and was an adjunct professor of geo-politics and international relations at various local universities and colleges. He is a graduate of the National Defense Intelligence College and a lifelong reader of spy novels.
